摘要: A substantial amount of research has been carried out on recognition behaviour in natural popu- lations pinnipeds. This work includes detailed anecdotal and quantitative descriptions addition to situ experimental tests recognition. The goals this review are summarize research, by doing so, point apparent patterns social among the pinnipeds, as well important gaps our knowledge. Following an introduction topic, is divided into three sections: (1) descriptive evidence, (2) exper- imental (3) pinnipeds resulting from phylogenetic, ecological life history constraints. evi- dence mostly pertains between motherand oVspring vocal stereotypy, use other sensory modalities, cases adoption allo-suckling. Further data include territorial males species. evidence also weighted heavily towards mother- Recognition pinni- ped mothers pups, at least one direction (i.e., mother recognizes pup or mother), experimentally demonstrated seven pinniped species (4 otariids 3 phocids), but not rule. Recent experiments have completed ontogeny salient cues, demonstrating long-term recog- nition. Such results provide basis for complex interactions individuals. As with methodologies import- ant aspect these data. Finally, all synthesized respect variability intra- interspecie c pressures aVecting evolution behaviour.
