摘要: Patterns of ranging behavior and space use are key for evaluating current ideas about the evolution maintenance pair-living sexual monogamy as they provide insights into dispersion females, potential territoriality, whether males limited to defending an area that can support only one female her offspring. We examined evaluate territoriality in five groups red titi monkeys (Plecturocebus discolor) during a 10-year study Ecuadorian Amazonia. Mean home range size, calculated using time-sensitive local convex hull estimation procedure, was 4.0 ± 1.4 ha. Annual ranges neighboring overlapped, on average, 0%-7%. daily path length 670 ± 194 m, resulting defendability indices 2.2-3.6 across groups. Groups visited, 4 12 sections their border per day, but not more often than would be expected by chance, intergroup encounters were infrequent. did find evidence active monitoring intruders areas, travel either faster or slower when at central areas range. The absence overt might compensated engaging loud calls, which throughout ranges; these calls may serve advertisement occupancy deterrent intruding conspecifics. Our finding titis have high is consistent with several main hypotheses proposed explain mammals.
