In the field, encyrtid wasp, Epidinocarsis lopezi (DeSantis) can find its host, cassava mealybug (Phenacoccus manihoti Matile-Ferrero) on cassave plants when host is scarce. As a step towards understanding parasitoid's effectiveness we investigated cues with which it locates host-habitat. Using four-armed olfactometer, determined attactivity of various host- and host-plant odours to female E. had been previously exposed infested plants. Attractivity or preference an odour was from proportion 50 choices made between blank, two odours. Female were attracted by mealybug-infested leaves (CML), but not mealybugs (CMB) alone uninfested (ULU). An artificial combination CMB ULU also attractive. CML preferred over + ULU. These results suggest that attractive element arises plant itself in response infestation. We therefore tested attractivity partly plants, found these indeed probably uses emitted guide field.
