摘要: Background Overexpression of the c-myc oncoprotein has been observed to be prognostic significance in several human cancers. This study was undertaken establish whether any melanoma. Methods Expression studied a prospective series primary and secondary malignant melanomas. Ethanol-fixed tissue digested into nuclei stained for flow cytometric analysis using pan-myc antibody. Results Overexpression prevalent both disease stages. In disease, overexpression associated with tumour thickness presence ulceration, age reduced disease-free interval. Of most importance, high expression predicted poor outcome metastatic disease. addition, able discriminate prognosis melanomas uniformly stratified as thick (greater than 3 mm) lesions. Conclusion These results indicate an important role melanoma which may lead better information identification new therapeutic strategies. © 1998 British Journal Surgery Society Ltd
