摘要: This paper investigates the relationship between women's education and fertility by exploiting a 1985 policy change in Kenya that lengthened primary school one year. An instrumental variables approach measures exogenous variation treatment intensity across birth cohorts. The reform led to an increase education, delay marriage, reduced beginning at age of 20. effect on becomes increasingly negative through 25. findings suggest postponement reduction marital gap, increased early use modern contraceptives contribute fertility. These results are consistent with women having greater control over their decision.
