摘要: Abstract In August 1998, a large outbreak of gastroenteritis occurred in Swiss village 3500 inhabitants whereof more than 50% were affected. A high contamination drinking water with faecal coliforms revealed defect the waste system. The objective present study was to investigate respect presence human pathogenic viruses. Drinking and clinical samples from patients examined for ‘Norwalk-like viruses’ (NLVs) enteroviruses. NLVs enteroviruses detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) one two samples. Five seven stool ill persons positive NLVs. Typing NLV-specific RT-PCR products DNA sequencing an identical genogroup-1 strain closely related Southampton virus both genogroup-2 NLV identified all enteroviral amplicon showed sequence similarity swine vesicular disease virus. These results demonstrate that highly contaminated enteric viruses at least strains involved this gastroenteritis.
