摘要: The Gulf of Paria is a semi-enclosed shallow basin with increasing coastal development activities along Trinidad's west coast. Sediments present host for trace metal pollutants from overlying waters, therefore determination their content critical in evaluating and detecting sources marine pollution. This paper presents Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis geochemical assessment metals sediments the Paria. GIS approach facilitates interpretation spatial relationships among key environmental processes. involves integration attribute data pertaining to bathymetry, current systems, topography, rivers, land use/land cover sediments. It employs interpolation retrieval operations analyze total concentrations aluminum, copper lead clay-enriched sediments, determine whether they are related sediment type or affected by discharge anthropogenic sources. Spatial distribution modeling element concentra- tions produced indicate contamination plumes possible such as rivers entering Paria, reveal potential hot spots dispersion patterns. A direct correlation between high aluminum detected, however regions relationship effectiveness visualization, query overlay demonstrated.
