摘要: ABSTRACT We show that feeding on detritus by the amphipod Orchestia grillus enhances microbial growth and detrital mineralization. Pellet egestion breakdown rates are measured for deposit-feeding gastropod Hydrobia minuta . Feeding ceases when sediment is mostly pelletized. A model assuming fecal pellet as a controlling factor populations developed predicts densities compatible with field observations.
