摘要: A novel layer-by-layer cubic growth pathway involving C{sub 2} dimers is advanced for large titanium carbide clusters based on observation of new magic numbers in the anions. This mechanism explains uniquely all a multicage model previously proposed metal clusters, suggesting that structures, characteristic bulk lattices, dominate clusters. Experimental and theoretical evidence indicates layered with can lead to type highly stable one-dimensional quantum wires. {copyright} {ital 1997} The American Physical Society}
