摘要: Reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions that generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide and superoxide have been identified important chemical processes regulate signal transduction. The findings of increased ROS in association with endothelial dysfunction has given rise to the "antioxidant hypothesis": since are hypertension, atherosclerosis vascular injury, then inhibiting oxidative stress antioxidants should decrease cardiovascular events. Preliminary efforts antioxidant vitamins like beta-carotene, vitamin C E shown no clinical benefits. Here we discuss a specific "redox signaling hypothesis." We propose physiologic stimuli steady laminar flow redox state cells tissues thereby modulating molecules sensitive. show inhibits tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inflammation cells. molecule-thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP)-as key regulator blood vessels. suggest modifying vasculature is an attractive therapeutic approach if target dependent pathways TXNIP.
