摘要: Abstract One of the striking features tropical instability waves (TIWs) is that they appear to be more prominent north equator. A linearized, 2½-layer ocean model used investigate effects various asymmetric background states on structures equatorial, unstable waves. Our results suggest meridional asymmetry TIWs due asymmetries two branches South Equatorial Current (SEC) and sea surface temperature front; it not presence North Countercurrent. Energetics analyses indicate frontal associated with SST front, as well barotropic shear SEC, are energy sources for TIWS.
