摘要: The surgical stress in major surgery induces a marked and well-defined postoperative metabolic response. Administering preoperative oral carbohydrates (POC) thus avoiding fasting attenuate these developments. In this chapter we review available evidence the rationale for treatment. A Cochrane reports that POC was associated with reduced insulin resistance, enhanced return of bowel function, shorter hospital stay, while no effect found on complication rates.
