摘要: Abstract This chapter reviews our current knowledge on vocal expression of emotional states in a prosimian primate group, the mouse lemurs, by applying cross-taxa concept emotion. In this concept, emotions are defined based their adaptive significance. Using standardized ethological protocols, we were able to predictably induce changes lemurs manipulating stimuli or situations. Whereas infants produced context-specific vocalizations linked external environment, adults additionally features respective interaction partner. courtship paradigm, lemur males showed dynamic paralleling intensity arousal evoked condition females and behavior. contrast rodents, neither vomeronasalectomy nor bulbectomy affected production. Castration led decrease rate specific expression. The emission latter, however, was not related plasma testosterone intact males. Altogether, findings suggested that control more individual social experience than olfactory input gonadal androgens. A comparison three acoustically distinct expressions across different species indicated comparable used convey particular individualized context, thereby appetitive aversive state. support hypothesis express state signaler reliably when context.
