摘要: As average lifespan of humans increases in western countries, cardiac diseases become the first cause death. Aging is among most important risk factors that increase susceptibility for developing cardiovascular diseases. The heart has very aerobic metabolism, and highly dependent on mitochondrial function, since mitochondria generate more than 90 % intracellular ATP consumed by cardiomyocytes. In last few decades, several investigations have supported relevance oxidative stress both aging development such as failure, hypertrophy, diabetic cardiomyopathy. current review, we compile different studies corroborating this role. Increased DNA instability, impaired bioenergetic efficiency, enhanced apoptosis, inflammation processes are some events related to occur heart, leading reduced cellular survival dysfunction. Knowing mechanisms involved process will provide a better understanding them allow finding approaches efficiently improve process.
