摘要: No species is more prolific in the diversity of phenotypic and genetic responses to environment than guppy (Poecilia reticulata), a tropical freshwater fish that has long captivated biologists (Endler, 1995; Houde, 1997; Magurran, 2005). Studies guppies are therefore expected yield valuable empirical counterparts theoretical work on genotype-by-environment interactions (GEI; Chapter 2). In this chapter, I briefly introduce GEI models predict how influences variation sexually selected traits. then review system light framework, by describing traits important for sexual selection, patterns selection acting those traits, fluctuation environments which subject. The theme emerges there evidence all elements needed influence system: exhibit substantial plastic host under strong individuals frequently encounter temporally spatially varying environmental conditions. However, surprisingly few studies have uncovered species, paucity addressing whether primarily acts maintain or erode strength selection. suggest broad approaches could be fruitful areas future research charismatic species.
