Parrot conservation in the lesser antilles with some comparison to the Puerto Rican efforts

摘要: There are four endemic species of Amazona parrots in the Lesser Antilles, namely imperial or Sisserou parrot imperialis and red-necked Jaco A. arausiaca Commonwealth Dominica, St Lucia versicolor Lucia, Vincent guildingii The Grenadines. Seven other members same family, Psittacidae, have become extinct region historical times. These extant now all threatened by deforestation, predation, illegal hunting collecting, natural disasters. Measures for conservation consist environmental education, habitat protection, enforcement appropriate legislation, enhancement wild breeding captive breeding. approaches reviewed each islands compared with relatively successful but much more expensive measures adopted Puerto Rican vittata Rico. Recommendations made future emphasis research.
