摘要: Poorly designed and maintained forest road stream crossings can directly link erosion sources to streams. Forestry best management practices (BMPs) provide techniques that are useful for preventing sedimentation associated with ditch erosion. However, few studies have quantified BMP sediment reductions. Thus, our primary objective was evaluate control effectiveness due BMPs secondarily quantify implementation costs. Sixty segments near were reconstructed, five treatments applied using a completely randomized design resulting in 11 13 replications per treatment. Ditch (1) bare (Bare), (2) grass seed lime fertilizer (Seed), (3) mat (Mat), (4) rock check dams (Dam), (5) rocked (Rock). Silt fence traps pins measured over one year determine treatment effectiveness. Trapped deposits indicated median rates greatest Dam (6.14 Mg ha−1 y−1 [2.74 tn ac−1 yr−1]), followed by Bare (4.92 [2.19 Rock (1.73 [0.77 Seed (1.04 [0.46 y−1]), Mat (0.82 [0.37 yr−1]). Results suggested had significantly lower than Dam, while provided intermediate levels. Costs of least expensive (US$6.10 approach−1), (US$21.33 (US$71.43 (US$141.08 approach−1). suggest began accelerate disproportionately when soil levels between 30% 50%; therefore, minimum cover 50% is recommended ditches.
