摘要: Excitatory amino acids (EAAs) represent a major group of neurotoxic agents, primarily affecting the nerve cell body. The beginning excitotoxicity era can be traced back to early 1950s when Hayashi described convulsant properties l-glutamic acid (GLU) and l-aspartic (ASP) following their administration into cerebral cortex dogs monkeys (1). Later, Lucas Newhouse reported that systemic GLU destroyed inner layers immature mouse retina (2). within central nervous system (CNS) were by Curtis Watkins in 1959 (3,4). This inspired further studies on its derivatives, which ultimately led consensus is principal excitatory neurotransmitter acting at majority EAA synapses, are present practically every neuron CNS.
