摘要: Background/aim There has been increasing evidence of the emergence antiseptic resistance mediated by quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) genes, which may reduce efficacy disinfection. Although presence QAC-positive staphylococci shown to be elevated in contact lens wearers, multipurpose solutions (MPS) against such isolates not determined. This study investigated four MPS for rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses staphylococci-harbouring QAC genes. Methods Ability viability three or more log reductions RGP was tested 60 disinfectant-resistant gene-positive staphylococci, comprising 38 coagulase-negative (CNS) (17 qacA/B , 7 smr 5 qacH 9 habouring two genes) and 22 Staphylococcus aureus (16 4 2 + )). gene-negative (30 CNS 30 S ) were used as controls. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) minimum bactericidal (MBCs) these Results there some variation between solutions, all failed achieve a 3-log reduction isolates. Strains harbouring genes significantly less likely reduced 3 logs solutions. Overall, MIC MBC clinical higher than those Conclusion The varied. disinfectant-resistance adversely affected disinfecting capacity
