摘要: The subiculum gives rise to the majority of hippocampal projections various telencephalic and diencephalic structures. Previously, these have been described using anterograde tracing with radioactively labeled amino acids. As part an ongoing detailed analysis connectivity region in rat, we studied by means recently introduced sensitive tracer Phaseolus vulgaris-leukoagglutinin (PHA-L) double-labeling protocols retrogradely transported fluorescent tracers. Within subiculum, populations neurons can be differentiated that each give a unique set target These neurons, characterized according common efferent connectivity, are differentially positioned along transverse axis subiculum. Thus, subicular cells near border CA1 field project targets different from those reached situated close presubiculum. We further observed major afferents i.e. arising entorhinal cortex, also organized suggest within appears homogeneous respect both cytoarchitectonic chemoarchitectonic characteristics, differentiation made its connections. Whether this takes form "columnar organization" as known for neocortex, or "compartmentation" shown striatum is not yet clear.
