摘要: The existing literature on the ranging behaviour, territoriality, sociality and mating system of red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is reviewed. Red home ranges are often unstable, varying in size suddenly or seasonally, shifting, drifting; excursions common. Floating individuals occur populations, but it unclear whether they do not have an range over stable areas much larger than those resident foxes. Territoriality seems very strict. Sociality limited to co-operation raising cubs. Evidence for both monogamy polygyny present. social structure might evolved as fairly tolerant assemblages under pressure predators.
