摘要: Abstract Prompted by observational evidence for an enhanced source of surface nutrients within anticyclonic eddy in the NE Atlantic, we investigate vertical transport processes that may produce such a phenomenon. For investigated, dominant mechanism is found to be ageostrophic circulation resulting from perturbation circular flow eddy. This can upwelling velocities order 10 m d −1 . Ekman pumping due wind stress on also produces within, but smaller scale ∼0.5 There no self-propagation leads nutrient flux displacement upwards nutrient-laden deeper isopycnals over core Deeper winter mixing relative surroundings, however, contribute elevated levels.
