摘要: Life in zoological gardens provides a number of benefits to captive animals, resulting an artificial reduction the “struggle for life” compared their free-ranging counterparts. These advantages should result higher chance surviving from 1 year next, and thus longer average life expectancies given that biological requirements species are adequately met. Here, we compare expectancy populations three deer (reindeer Rangifer tarandus, red Cervus elaphus, roe Capreolus capreolus). Whereas reindeer had equal or than individuals, was shorter animals. results support impression difficult keep zoos, whereas perform well under human care. We suggest mean relative corresponding is reliable indicator evaluate husbandry success captivity.
