摘要: Genetic screens in the hermaphrodite nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans resulted identification of basal conserved machinery apoptosis, arguably single most important finding for our understanding cell death. The last two years have seen enormous progress elucidation molecular interactions that lie at heart this machinery, along with major insights both into how death is activated and mechanism recognition engulfment corpses. In review, I set out current models regulation execution C. elegans, focussing particular on similarities between vertebrates. Finally, attempt to highlight key areas future research explore additional ways which can be used understand mammals.
