From Expulsion to Success: Perceptions of Expelled Students About Their Expulsion Process and Resumption of Education

摘要: This mixed-methods study examined expelled students in a Northwest public school district of 3,400 students. The purpose was to analyze perceptions from 2003-2010 (N-68) regarding their expulsion process and experiences relating the resumption educational pursuits. Data collected questionnaire designed by researcher distributed 44 transcribed coded testimony four research centers on whys wherefores student expulsions, asking questions that could help schools districts penetrate more deeply into process, focus how perceive own how, after expulsion, they do or not resume education. Results findings using descriptive statistics qualitative interviewing coding procedures show five significant areas. Expelled (1) express deep feeling isolation (2) feel expulsions were unfair, but support zero tolerance policies for weapons drug abuses even though majority reason is offenses, (3) need them, exclude (4) pursuits at ratio 75% graduation various 25% who dropped out, (5) parents, especially mothers, are main influential mentors
