摘要: Objective: To assess the usefulness of total lymphocyte count (TLC) for monitoring HIV-infected patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy. Design: Observational cohort study. Methods: Correlation between difference (delta) from baseline at week 4 8 12 and 48 in TLC CD4 cell viral load was determined initiating HAART phase III clinical trials 1995 2001 HIV Clinical Research Unit Somerset Hospital Cape Town. Results: The study included 266 patients. At weeks median increase 30 52 139 219 cells x 10(6)/l 88 145 decrease -1.6 - 2.2 -2.5 -2.7 log(10) copies/ml respectively. correlation all pairs deltaTLC deltaCD4 counts significant (r 0.61; P < 0.0001) but delta it not -0.014; = 0.73). However reduction both -CD4 -.96; -0.89; significant. slope [52.493 + 0.14(deltaTLC)]. Sensitivity specificity an or similar trend during follow-up were 83.4% 87.3% Conclusion: correlated well with changes a group level changes. may have role inexpensive immunological response to therapy resource-constrained setting.
