摘要: Gymnema montanum Hook (Asclepiadaceae), is an endemic plant species of India, traditionally used for diabetes and its management. In this experiment, the ethanol extract G. (GLEt) at a dose 200mg/kg body weight was tested to evaluate effect on renal damage in alloxan-induced diabetic rats efficacy compared with standard hypoglycemic drug, glibenclamide (600 microg/kg weight). The GLEt were administered orally 3 weeks effects glucose, insulin, markers including urea, creatinine uric acid, lipid peroxidation thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS) hydroperoxides antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities kidney studied. addition, urinary protein profile studied using SDS-PAGE. results indicated that significantly normalized elevated blood increased levels kidney. excreted large amount proteins than untreated which during treatment GLEt. conclusion, found be more effective reducing oxidative stress, thus confirming ethnopharmacological use protecting complications.
