摘要: Abstract Fruit production by the endemic hardwood tree Elaeocarpus dentatus (hinau) was measured during 1981–88 on two study areas about 3 km apart in Orongorongo Valley, Wellington, using collecting funnels and trays placed under crowns of trees. differed significantly between areas, years individual Buds, flowers, fruits hinau were browsed introduced marsupial brushtail possum, Trichosurus vulpecula. When possums eradicated from one fruit increased significantly. As recolonised area over next 2–3 years, declined to former levels. Such effects native trees shrubs are likely have serious consequences for bird populations, forest dynamics.
