摘要: A computer is programmed to compress data of a database in response modification language (DML) statements generated by on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems. In several embodiments, that initially added block left uncompressed until predetermined condition satisfied, which happens infrequently (relative OLTP transactions on the block). When automatically compresses all block, increases amount unused space block. New thereafter partially compressed satisfaction whereby again compressed, i.e. re-compressed. Adding new and its compression are repeated unless another met, not further re-compressed, thereby recognize limit benefit from compression.
