Effects of dispersion and birefringence on the performance of quantum well mode converters

摘要: The device characteristics of GaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) polarization modulators, designed for operation at wavelengths 865 and 870 nm, respectively, are investigated shown to depend strongly on the dispersive anisotropic optical properties medium. Results indicate that observed decrease in spectral bandwidth conversion efficiency detuned from excitonic bandgap by approximately 250 AA can be accounted for, theoretically, if electroabsorptive loss terms included coupled-mode analysis MQW waveguides. Device design considerations applications modulators integrated optic filtering, wavelength division multiplexing/demultiplexing, frequency tuning semiconductor lasers presented. >
