摘要: Objective This article reviews the literature on role of antileukotrienes (anti-LTs), specifically montelukast, zafirlukast, and zileuton, in treatment asthma. Data Sources Relevant appropriate controlled clinical studies were used. Only English language was reviewed. Study Selection Material taken from academic/scholarly journals, reviews, published abstracts. Results In guidelines established by National Asthma Education Prevention Program Heart, Lung, Blood Institute, a stepwise approach to asthma management is recommended, with recommendations varying depending degree disease severity. The anti-LTs, newest class drugs for asthma, play circumscribed as they only recently available when latest published. Subsequently, however, extensive experience anti-LTs has been amassed. Multiple have demonstrated that improve pulmonary function quality life, reduce symptoms, exacerbations, use β 2 -agonists oral steroids. may be particularly useful patients aspirin sensitivity or concomitant allergic rhinitis, well pediatric patients. These agents additive effects inhaled corticosteroids permit reduction corticosteroid dosages. Conclusions several features are likely promote adherence generally tolerated. data suggest should considered therapeutic option therapy mild severe
