摘要: Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), an etiologic human retrovirus of adult leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), causes approximately 60 new cases ATLL each year in Nagasaki Prefecture; essentially all are fatal, and they account for 0.5% total deaths the area. The estimated life risk HTLV-I carrier to develop is 5%. major transmission pathway peculiarly endemic Prefecture was studied. prevalence infection children mothers (21%) significantly higher than that general population area (1%) more 85% were carriers. breast milk contained HTLV-I-infected cells infectious marmoset via oral administration. A retrospective survey showed 17 (39%) 44 0 (0%) 10 when given only or formula only, respectively. These data provide a powerful basis devising intervention measure block cycle HTLV-I, ie, if refrain from breast-feeding, incidence will be reduced some 50 years later.
