摘要: PURPOSE To measure and describe the reflectance properties of a mammalian retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) to determine mechanisms responsible for RNFL reflectance. METHODS An isolated rat retina suspended across slit in black membrane mounted perfusion chamber provided high quality images RNFL. Imaging microreflectometry was used at wavelengths from 400 nm 830 as function illumination angle. RESULTS The directional all consistent with theory light scattering by cylinders; each bundle scattered into conical sheet coaxial bundle. There no evidence noncylindrical component any wavelength. Measured spectra were between animals, similar ones previously measured macaque, varied All could be described two-mechanism cylindrical model three free parameters. CONCLUSIONS At arises structures. highly nature this can an important source measurement variability clinical assessment reveal combination mechanisms: shorter than approximately 570 comes cylinders diameters much smaller wavelength, but longer 680 effective 350 900 nm.
