摘要: Recent gas flux measurements have shown that Strombolian explosions are often followed by periods of elevated flux, or “gas codas,” with durations order a minute. Here we present UV camera data from 200 events recorded at Stromboli volcano to constrain the nature these codas for first time, providing estimates combined explosion plus coda SO2 masses ≈18–225 kg. Numerical simulations slug ascent show substantial proportions initial mass can be distributed into train “daughter bubbles” released base slug, which suggest, generate codas, on bursting surface. This process could also cause transitioning slugs cap bubbles, significantly reducing explosivity. study is attempt combine high temporal resolution numerical conduit flow investigate volcanic degassing dynamics.
