Differential reactions to anthropogenic disturbance by two ground-nesting shorebirds

摘要: Many ground-nesting shorebirds experience a high level of anthropogenic disturbance, often to the detriment their breeding success. This study investigated responses Near-Threatened African Black Oystercatcher Haematopus moquini (ABO) and Least Concern Kelp Gull Larus dominicanus vetula (KG) disturbance during pre-breeding season at three locations differing in levels colony size. Birds were directly approached from over 100 m away markers dropped each behavioural reaction approach. Measuring back allowed quantitative measure effects disturbance.
