摘要: In this study, we reported the first outbreak of infection by Trypanosoma vivax in horses southern Brazil, a non-endemic region where bovines have only recently been found infected trypanosome species. We evaluated 12 from farm four displayed pale mucous membranes, fever, weight loss, and swelling abdomen, prepuce, or vulva. The diagnosis T. was confirmed morphological parameters trypomastigotes blood smears species-specific PCR. All vivax-infected animals showed anemia, most increased levels beta-1, beta-2, gamma globulins. Horses were treated with diminazene aceturate, but cure not achieved, disease relapsed after therapy. These findings demonstrated that Brazilian isolates, which already infecting cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep, can be highly pathogenic for horses, causing severe even death due to recurrence infection.
