摘要: The properties of hippocampal place cells are reviewed, with particular attention to the nature internal and external signals that support their firing. A neuronal simulation firing in open–field environments varying shape is presented. This coupled an existing model how place–cell can be used drive navigation tested by implementation as a miniature mobile robot. sensors on robot provide visual, odometric short–range proximity data, which combined estimate distance walls enclosure from robot's current heading direction. These inputs simulation, location represented cells. If goal encountered, learning occurs connections concurrently active set ‘goal cells’, guide subsequent navigation, allowing return unmarked location. system shows good agreement actual firing, makes predictions regarding subiculum, effect blocking long–term synaptic changes, locus search rats after deformation environment.
