摘要: Wood-based pellets are produced in the southeastern United States (SE US) and shipped to Europe for generation of heat power. Effects pellet production on selected Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) evaluated using industry information, available energy consumption data, published research findings. Challenges associated with identifying relevant SDG goals targets this particular bioenergy supply chain potential deleterious impacts also discussed. We find that woody SE US shipments displace coal generate positive effects affordable clean (SDG 7), decent work economic growth 8), innovation infrastructure 9), responsible 12), life land 15). Primary strengths provisioning employment depressed rural areas displacement fossil fuels. Weaknesses air, water, biodiversity arise if resource base harvest activities improperly managed. The provides an opportunity transition low-carbon industries innovations while incentivizing better management.
