摘要: The roles of females and males in mating competition mate choice have lately proven more variable, between within species, than previously thought. In nature, occurs during search is expected to be regulated by the numbers potential mates same-sex competitors. Here, we present first study test how a temporal change sex affects sampling. Our model system (the marine fish Gobiusculus flavescens) uniquely suitable because its roles, from conventional reversed, over breeding season. As predicted role theory, courtship was typically initiated terminated early opposite pattern observed late season, at which time several often simultaneously courted same male. Mate-searching visited shows that mutual can profound effects on female male behavior. Future work needs consider dynamic nature if aim fully understand sexual selection wild.
