摘要: Keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) is a paracrine mediator of epithelial cell proliferation that has been reported to induce marked mammary epithelium in rats. In this study, systemic administration KGF into naive and oophorectomized mice causes gland proliferation, as evidenced histologically by the appearance cysts lined single layer hyperplastic epithelium. Whole mount preparations glands reveal noted are actually ducts dilated along much their length. The histology KGF-treated similar fibrocystic disease buman female breast. response differs significantly from rats which ductal most prominent. Estrogen progesterone when administered combination but not alone cause development numerous endbuds mouse gland. estrogen- progesterone-pretreated ducts, within endbuds, fibrous metamorphosis periductal adipose tissue. hyperplasia caused rapidly reversible both after cessation treatment. spectrum KGF-, estrogen-, progesterone-induced histopathology provides model for study breast disease.
