摘要: Abstract Background The novel coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) causes multi-system including possibly heightened stroke risk. Data from high-income countries (HIC) suggest disruptions to care delivery with reduced admissions and administration of acute reperfusion therapies. We are unaware any published data on the impact COVID-19 pandemic outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. Purpose To compare rates case fatality between corresponding periods 2020 2019, within a hospital system Ghana, assess potential pandemic. Methods compared monthly mortality January June vs. 2019 at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, tertiary medical center Ghana. Predictors in-patient were assessed using multivariate logistic regression model. Results Stroke higher (431 401), an increase +7.5% (95% CI: 5.1–10.5%). There was also rise recurrent (19.0% 10.9%, p = .0026). trended (29.3% 24.2%, p = .095) adjusted odds ratio 1.22 0.89–1.68). Conclusion While influence secular trends cannot be excluded, outbreak coincided comparatively significant initial this Ghanaian hospital. Continued surveillance hospital, as well assessment issue other sites Africa is warranted.
