Selective ablation of neurons by methylazoxymethanol during pre- and postnatal brain development

摘要: Neonatal or pregnant albino rats were injected with either single double doses of methylazoxymethanol (20 mg/kg) to test the temporal specificity its effect on clearly definable regions brain. A dose, dams from gestational day 11 21 (G11-G21) and neonatal birth postnatal 5 (P0-P5), produced differential weight reductions among various brain regions. Two prominent peaks reduction found: one occurring between G13 G15 for cerebrum hippocampus P0 P1 cerebellum olfactory bulbs. Dual injections drug G14 60% in cerebrum, slightly earlier reduced by about 23%. This was accompanied narrowing cerebellar width, which we believe due fewer Purkinje cells. at bulb 65%, 62%, 18%.
