摘要: Two case-control studies were set up to investigate the relationship between melanocytic naevi and risk of melanoma compare naevus phenotype in two countries exposed greatly different levels sun exposure rates. In England 117 cases 163 controls recruited from North-East Thames Region 183 162 New South Wales, Australia. Each subject underwent a whole-body count performed by same examiner each country. Relative risks associated with country calculated comparison data Australia England. Atypical strong factors for both countries: odds ratio (OR) three or more atypical was 4.6 (95% CI 2.0-10.7) compared 51.7 6.5-408.4) Common also significant similar ratios countries. Prevalence greater Australian than English controls: OR 9.7 1.2-81.7) For young age groups, median number common UK, whereas older individuals this difference disappeared. The prevalence on non-sun-exposed sites not significantly mole syndrome (AMS) prevalent (6%) (2%). results study support role induction adults. There trend towards stronger syndrome, usually genetic susceptibility melanoma, England, suggesting environmental interactions possibility phenocopies induced sunlight.
