摘要: In this review, the information available from literature and data obtained by author about epiphysis (or pineal gland), an important neuroendocrine organ, its main hormone, melatonin, are summarized. The history of studying evolutionary aspects activity, anatomy, physiology discussed. results electrophysiological studies described, biochemical activity analyzed. pathways through which photoinformation enters gland, external factors regulating functioning described in detail. on physiological effects produced epiphyseal neurohormones (melatonin is best studied) their role formation different types behavior emphasized.
