Lectin-mediated drug delivery in the oral cavity.

摘要: The delivery of therapeutic agents to, or via, the oral cavity is limited by efficient removal mechanisms that exist in this area. Lectins are proteins glycoproteins bind to specific sugar residues, and can, therefore, interact with glycoconjugates present on cell surfaces salivary mucins. Endogenous lectins could also be used as points attachment for carbohydrate-containing systems. This review considers possibility using targeting within reports some number studies completed date. As multifunctional molecules, them both considered. Lectin-containing systems a potential innovation targeted prolonged therapy cavity, but considerations such toxicity cost will need addressed before their routine use becomes reality.
