摘要: Determination of the growth parameters a species is an indispensable requirement for understanding its biology and consequently management fishery. In fisheries science, calculations longevity, mortality rates stock-assessment models depend on availability data. Genidens genidens, one most common ariid in Brazil, potential sentinel biomonitoring Guanabara Bay, country’s degraded estuarine ecosystems. The present study investigated G. providing supporting information management. Individuals were measured, sexed, number rings lapillus otolith counted. periodicity formation was determined by monthly ratio edge type. from 0 to 11.5 years old captured, including some that older than previously reported. Our results showed this forms two per year, summer other winter; ring formed month later males females, due period oropharyngeal incubation offspring. Sexual dimorphism also observed rate: grow faster, reach smaller sizes females. We can conclude parental care carried out high energy expenditure forming large oocytes females mark otoliths reveal life-cycle particularities differently each sex.
