摘要: Three adult red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in a 20-km2 wilderness area of coastal south-eastern Australia were studied during pre-denning and denning. Home ranges defined by geographic featues, but not roads. The occupied exclusive home ranges, observations suggest that they territorial existed alone or, at most, mated pairs. Home-range sizes small (1.2-5.2 km2) compared with those North America Europe, similar to England Wales. During denning the female's activity became almost entirely diurnal. When active, vixen was cubs. Male nocturnal, but, as found for female, inactive periods spent near suspected den-site his range. Habitats frequented most all highest abundance either or medium-sized mammals. Dry sclerophyll forest used consistently heathland beaches rarely frequented. Small mammals, which abundant habitats except beach heathland, made up 52.6% items scats.
