摘要: Abstract The quality of the loess magnetic susceptibility (MS) record as a climate proxy has been compared to ice core and deep-sea records, yet source causes MS signal remain poorly understood. Four explanations are currently in circulation. dominant hypothesis, that variations largely result from post-depositional weathering and/or formation phases by pedogenic processes, led use data palaeoprecipitation proxy. We present different view based on analyses samples monthly dust falls over 4 years North China. These have values comparable those Pleistocene palaeosols but, unlike latter, their seasonal so cannot be explained differences. Our experiments confirm enhancement is caused principally fine-grain minerals, contrast with previous proposals, major ultrafine minerals appears decomposed plant litter.
