Fluoxetine and the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone (SIADH)

摘要: Objective: To report three new cases of the fluoxetine-induced syndrome inappropriate secretion antidiuretic hormone (SIADH).Clinical picture: All occurred in elderly psychiatric inpatients treated for depression with standard doses fluoxetine within one month starting medication. patients were clinically symptomatic SIADH.Treatment: In all medication was ceased and fluid restriction commenced. One patient required intravenous saline.Outcome: recovered fully weeks. None rechallenged.Conclusions: The symptoms hyponatraemia due to SIADH may be difficult distinguish from depression, unless appropriate laboratory investigations are made.
