摘要: Background: Depression is common and clinical trials are crucial for evaluating treatments. Difficulties in recruiting participants into depression well-documented, yet no study has examined the factors affecting recruitment. This review aims to identify recruitment develop a conceptual framework through systematic assessment of published qualitative research. Methods: Systematic meta-synthesis studies. Meta-synthesis involves synthesis themes across number studies produce findings that “greater than sum parts”. ASSIA, CINAHL, Embase, Medline PsychInfo were searched up April 2013. Reference lists included studies, key publications relevant reviews also searched. Quality appraisal adopted “prompts appraising research”. Results: 7977 citations identified, 15 included. Findings indicate decision enter trial made by patients gatekeepers based on patient's health state at time being approached participate; their attitude towards research interventions; extent which become engaged with trial. Our highlights participate both patient gatekeeper judgement between risk reward. Limitations: Only English language this review. Conclusions: from have implications design interventions improve trials. Such may aim diminish perceived risks increase rewards participation.
